Activity Level 3 - Active

You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travellers who require mobility assistance devices.

Day Two

Reykjavík, Iceland

Discover culture and history in Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital. Explore the old section on a walking tour featuring the Parliament, harbour, city hall, and the city’s oldest building. Gaze up at the famous glass facade of the Harpa Concert Hall, a true marvel of modern architecture. Tonight, gather with your fellow travellers and experience the freshness of Icelandic food at a local restaurant.

Reykjavík - Golden Circle - Reykjavík

Travel the Golden Circle to see Iceland's most iconic natural wonders, including the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in Thingvellir National Park where you can walk between two continents. Learn how locals use Iceland’s geothermal energy to cook food and taste “lava bread,” which is submerged into the earth and cooked for 24 hours. Continue along the Golden Circle and take in the beauty of the Gullfoss (Golden Falls) double-cascade waterfall before visiting the explosive Strokkur fountain geyser. Return to Reykjavík for an evening on your own.

Reykjavík - Akranes - Borgarnes

The journey continues to western Iceland’s coast. In Akranes, an old fishing town at the base of Akrafjall Mountain, visit the picturesque lighthouse, climb the stairs to take in views over the bay if you wish,* listen to mysterious stories about the area, and take time for a leisurely walk along the historical harbor if you choose. Continue to Deildartunguhver, the highest-flowing hot spring in Europe, and stroll along wooden walkways to explore the hot springs safely. Later, get to know the world-famous Icelandic horse breed as you visit friendly horses at the stables of a family-run farm. Get a look at how the natural hot spring in the family’s backyard is used for making home-baked ryebread. This evening, arrive in Borgarnes, your home for the next three nights and an ideal setting for seeking the northern lights.

Borgarnes - Langjökull Glacier - Borgarnes

This morning, experience an Impact Moment with a visit to an Icelandic goat farm. Learn how local farmer, Jóhanna, helped to bring this unique breed, dating back to the time of Iceland’s settlement, back from the brink of extinction. After visiting with the friendly goats, enjoy a simple meal of homemade specialties from the farm. Then, bundle up and ascend Langjökull glacier** via mountain truck and go “Into the Glacier” to experience the purest blue ice color in this man-made tunnel, the world’s largest.*** Top off your day’s explorations seeing the Hraunfossar waterfalls (Lava Falls), where clear, cold springs seep through the lava field and form many small waterfalls into the Hvítá River. Tonight, after dinner, gaze at the sky in search of the northern lights.

Borgarness - Snæfellsnes Peninsula - Borgarnes

Today, journey to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, with its camera-ready black sand beaches, mountain peaks, volcanic craters, rocky coastlines, and tiny fishing villages. Enjoy lunch on your own in Arnarstapi, a beautiful small fishing village located at the foot of Mt. Stapafell, and where extraordinary columnar basalt and cliff formations form a safe harbor. This afternoon, take in the views on Mount Kirkjufell with its iconic shape and freestanding form; this is one of the most photographed landscapes in Iceland. After dinner, continue searching for the northern lights dancing across the night sky.

Borgarnes - Reykjavik

This morning, travel back to Reykjavík, and spend some time exploring the capital city and have lunch on your own. Then, it’s your choice! Experience the Icelandic tradition of geothermal bathing with a dip in the warm, mineral-rich waters of Sky Lagoon**** -OR- go on a thrilling virtual experience ride, giving you the feeling of flying over Iceland’s glaciers, fjords, and most iconic landscapes. Come together this evening for a farewell dinner at a restaurant featuring Icelandic cuisine.

The Northern Lights

Each year, during the winter months, travellers journey to Iceland and venture out into the dark to see the magical but elusive northern lights (aurora borealis). This natural phenomenon is the product of collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere; the results are spectacular. Streaks of colourful light appear across the sky. The colours can vary from white to pink or purple and, most commonly, green. It is known that the best time to witness the lights in Iceland is from late September to mid-April, when the nights are the longest. This light show is truly dazzling and worth the pursuit.

Important Tour Information

Thank you for choosing to travel with us and allowing us to guide you along this adventure! From the moment you step out your door, we strive to provide a comprehensive, stress-free, and unforgettable travel experience. To that end, the following features are included with your tour: motor coach transportation, accommodations, hotel luggage handling (porterage), select meals, admission to attractions as outlined in your itinerary, and gratuities for servers of included meals as outlined in your itinerary, bellmen, and door attendants.
If you chose to purchase a land-only tour package, you have opted to purchase your own airline tickets to and from home. In this case, we ask that you keep a few important factors in mind when booking your round-trip flights:
1) Please make sure your round-trip flights work with your tour itinerary. There may be scheduled activities on these days.
2) You must provide us with your flight schedules for the entire tour upon final payment. This ensures that we can arrange any other services you may have purchased from us, including hotel transfers, and that your Tour Manager will know when to expect your arrival. This also allows us to maintain contact with you in case of an emergency.
If you have chosen our air-inclusive tour package, you have opted that we take care of all your air travels from your home to the destination and back. This also includes any inter-flights from city to city within the tour package if applicable. We ask that you keep the following in mind:
1) You must provide full name (including middle name or middle initial, if applicable), as it appears on your valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID that you will show at the airport. The name on your airline ticket must be an exact match to this ID, or you may be prevented from boarding the aircraft.
2) If you are a member of a participating frequent flyer program, make sure to provide the number when you book your trip and retain the copy of your ticket and boarding pass so you will receive proper credit for your mileage. Please note that some air tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual.
3) Whenever possible, we will add charges for air departure taxes to your invoice. Some international arrival and departure fees are not included in your air ticket and must be paid by you during the tour in the local currency.
Your comfort is important to us. With that in mind, we charter coaches that are temperature-controlled.
While some coaches may have a toilet facility, it is for emergency use since local laws require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons. Rest assured that frequent stops will be made along the touring route for your comfort and convenience.
Please note, outlets for charging devices may not be available on the coach. Therefore, if you anticipate using electronic devices, we recommend bringing portable power banks.
Change your seat, change your view! At least once a day, the Tour Manager will ask all travelers to change seats. This ensures that every traveler has an opportunity to enjoy a variety of views as they travel and a chance to get to know each other better. Depending on availability, single travelers may be seated next to another traveler. In fairness to all, there will be no exceptions to this policy.
Hotel rooms in Iceland are generally smaller than average, as most Icelandic hotels are designed with simplicity, minimalism, and functionality. Some hotels on this program are located in the countryside.
At the time of booking, you will be asked what type of room you would like.
A double room has either one large bed or two smaller ones. Double rooms are perfect for couples or if you’re travelling with a companion and wish to share a room. There are plenty of double rooms available on our tours.
A single or solo room has only one bed and may be smaller in size. These rooms are first come, first-served, as most properties have only a certain amount of these available.
A triple room usually consists of a standard double room with two beds. A cot or fold-up bed may be added, but it depends on the room size and local fire codes. The number of persons accommodated does not dictate the room size. Triples are first come, first-served, as they are also very limited. If you booked a triple and only a double and single room is available at a hotel, appropriate charges for the single and double accommodations will be assessed.
We will forward your request to the hotel and do our best to accommodate your needs; however, please know that we cannot make any guarantees. In certain countries, the hotel rooms may not be as large as standard hotel rooms in North America.
Here are a few details to keep in mind:
Check-in times are set by individual hotels and can vary, but most hotels offer afternoon check-ins. Depending on your arrival time, you may have to wait before you can get into your room. Some hotels may be willing to store your luggage in a secure location until your room is ready. In these instances, the hotel will not be responsible for lost or stolen items and there may be a charge for this service.
Please observe check out times at all properties. Hotels designate these as well.
Some hotels require a credit card imprint or your passport information upon check-in to activate telephones in the rooms and for potential incidental charges. Most hotels charge an access fee for using phones in hotel rooms. Please check with the front desk personnel at each hotel for specific policies. You will be responsible for all incidental fees occurred during your stay, and these must be paid at time of check out.

While in Reykjavik, you have a choice between two activities.
Your first choice is experiencing the Icelandic tradition of geothermal bathing with a dip in the warm, mineral rich waters of the scenic Sky Lagoon. Take a dip in the warm, mineral rich waters, enjoy sweeping ocean views and enjoy a 7-step spa ritual that is sure to awaken your senses.
The Activity Level of this choice is a level 1.
The water temperature is in the range from 96.8-104F. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed in the lagoon.
Your second choice is “FlyOver Iceland". A virtual ride that uses state-of-the-art technology to give you the feeling of flying over Iceland’s glaciers, fjords and most iconic landscapes. You will hang suspended, feet dangling, before a 20-meter spherical screen while the film whisks you away on an exhilarating journey across Iceland. Special effects include wind, mist, scents, combined with the ride’s motion to create an unforgettable experience.
The Activity Level of this choice is a level 2.

It’s your choice! Included in your itinerary, there may be a day, or days, featuring a choice of two (or more) activities during a designated time. Wi-Fi access has improved, with free or cheap internet available in many public spaces. Some restaurants, cafes, and hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi, though at times it may not reach rooms in hotels. Wi-Fi may not be available onboard motorcoaches or other modes of transportation used during your tour.
The natural wonders of our planet are awe-inspiring. To ensure their beauty can be enjoyed for generations, we are committed to reducing single-use plastics on our tours and in our offices. On tours in this region, where the tap water is safe to drink, we encourage you to bring a reusable filter water bottle. Due to Iceland’s proximity to the ocean, seafood is very popular. Fish can be served hot or at room temperature. Cod, salmon, trout and shark are common on local tables.
Other important elements of Icelandic cuisine are lamb and dairy.
Popular foods in Iceland include skyr (a type of yogurt), hangikjöt (smoked lamb), kleinur (similar to a donut), laufabrauð (a crepe like dessert) and bollur (cream puff dessert).
Hot dogs (known locally as Pylsur) are hugely popular in Iceland, and this is the country's favorite fast food. You'll find hot dog stands and restaurants that serve them all across Reykjavik.
The flavors of Iceland's traditional country food is determined by the preservation methods used — pickling in fermented whey or brine, drying and smoking.
Other local ingredients that form part of Icelandic cuisine include seabirds and waterfowl, salmon and trout, crowberry, blueberry, rhubarb, Iceland moss, wild mushrooms, wild thyme, lovage, angelica and dried seaweed, as well as a wide array of dairy products.
Brennivin is a local favorite. It is a type of schnapps and considered Iceland’s signature liquor. It is sometimes called “Black Death” by the locals.
While in Reykjavik, breakfast will consist of a more traditional 'American-style" buffet, whereas in countryside hotels, breakfast will reflect a more traditional Icelandic fare – with a fresh assortment of breads, homemade jams, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheeses, an assortment of sliced meats (such as salami and ham), a variety of pickled herring, cereals, fruit, yogurt, Icelandic skyr, hot oatmeal with all the fixings, and a waffle station. Due to the remote location, not all items will be available every day.
In Reykjavik, dinners will be at local restaurants and will offer modern Icelandic dining experiences.
In Borgarnes, dinners will be representing traditional country-style dining and will be held at the hotel. Offerings will be simplistic in nature and may be limited.
Special Diet
North America offers diverse dietary options due to ingredient availability and acceptance of alternative diets. However, traveling abroad may pose challenges as menus reflect local tastes, alternative diets may not be common, and medical conditions requiring dietary adjustments may not be understood. Group meals typically offer a pre-fixed menu that cater to diverse travelers. It’s important to note that while some dietary requests can be accommodated, options may be limited.
The food people eat is a window into their history, traditions, and values, and sharing food brings people together. One of the many wonderful aspects of travel is to experience as much of the regional cuisine as possible. Your tour includes many meals, as outlined in your itinerary. Our team has carefully chosen restaurants that feature local ingredients and offer regional flavors.
For meals that are not included in your itinerary, your Tour Manager will be happy to recommend eateries and local businesses that best fit your taste and needs. It’s also worth noting that the bigger cities offer much more variety of foods than the smaller towns.
The average price for meals in this region ranges from $15 to 20 US Dollars for breakfast, $25 to 35 US Dollars for lunch, and $45 to 55 US Dollars for dinner.

One of the best parts of traveling is coming back home with souvenirs that really reflect the place you’ve just been.
Many shops sell local souvenirs as well as high quality clothing specifically designed for colder climates, including Icelandic wool sweaters, hats, scarves and other goods.
Most retail shops are open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and in the morning on Saturday.
Most stores are not open on Sundays or Saturday afternoons. Most stores are closed on holidays as well.
Icelanders have a deep respect for their pristine natural environment. When exploring the outdoors, always follow marked trails, avoid disturbing wildlife, and leave no trace of your visit.
Icelanders, like other Nordic people, value their personal space and tend to be reserved. Avoid intrusive behavior and respect the privacy of others.
Iceland is known for its open-mindedness and acceptance of diversity. Be respectful of different lifestyles and viewpoints you may encounter during your visit.
Engaging in small talk with locals is appreciated and a great way to get to know the culture better. However, Icelanders may take some time to warm up to new people, so be patient and respectful.
Our tours are non-smoking throughout. If you require a smoking room, please let your Client Care agent know when you book your tour. Please note we cannot guarantee your request as in general, Iceland hotels do not offer smoking rooms.
